Unless otherwise specified, Recreation Registration Procedure is as follows:

MAIL (W/CHECK payable to “Town of Bedford,” MC or VISA #), FAX (W/MC OR VISA #), DROP-OFF OR REGISTER ONLINE (NO PHONE REGISTRATIONS). All registration is limited. Please use forms in this brochure. Receipts will be mailed. Wait list status will be indicated on the receipts if the session you choose is full.

Financial Assistance: Requests for financial assistance must be made at the time of registration (Recreation Financial Assistance form must be submitted with registration form).

Summer Deposit/Payment/Refund Information:
Programs costing less than $200 must be paid in full at the time of registration. For programs costing more than $200 there is a $50 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration. Balance is due by May 1st .

Non-resident Fee:  Please note that there is a $5/program nonresident fee unless otherwise specified.

Refund/cancellation procedures:
- For programs costing $200 or less, full refund, less $10, if cancelled at least one week prior to the start of the program. There is no refund if notice is given less than a week before the start of the program.
- For programs costing more than $200 full refund, less $50 deposit, if cancelled at least one week prior to the start of the program. There is no refund if notice is given less than a week before the start of the program.
- Programs will not be prorated.
- Programs that are not self-supporting (due to low enrollment) will be cancelled. Full refund if program is cancelled.

-Go to the Recreation website and click on the link to “Register Online.” -Pay with a credit card and receive an instant e-mail confirmation of enrollment (must be paid in full; deposits not accepted online). -Write down your customer number for future online transactions. Call us if you forget it next time! NOTE to 1st time users: account holder must be an adult, do not set up acct. using child’s name and info. Make sure to input first/last name in correct location. You may register multiple children for multiple programs all in one transaction.

Children are grouped by grade as much as possible; however, in order to accommodate as many children as possible, two consecutive grades may be combined.

Fee:  $340/session (Session 1:  $310); ratio approx. 10:1; girls and boys are placed in separate groups in Senior Adventures.

*Swim Lessons: Children in Senior Adventures are transported by school bus to Springs Brook Park for swim lessons everyday except Wednesdays.  Children will be placed in lessons according to SBP records.   If your child has not taken lessons at SBP or has taken lessons during the off-season, it is your responsibility to contact the Recreation Office at least two weeks prior to the start of your child’s program to discuss level placement.

SUMMER ADVENTURES EXTENDED DAY OPTIONS (for children in Senior or Grades 5/6 Adventures):

Early Bird:  This is an opportunity for children to participate in supervised quiet games (board games, card games, etc.) prior to the start of the Summer Adventures day. 
8:00 – 9:00 in the JGMS Cafeteria
Fee:  $50/session

Tennis Instruction is given to children just learning to play or wishing to improve their play (ideal for beginners and advanced beginners).  For children entering grades 2 – 6.  Children must bring their own rackets.
8:00 – 9:00 at BHS Tennis Courts (staff will walk children to JGMS for Summer Adventures).
Fee:  $70/session

Extended Fun:  Activities at JGMS as well as trips to Springs Brook Park provide added afternoon fun.  Specific schedule will be distributed to all participants.  Pickup will be between 5:00 and 6:00 at the Town playground on Mudge Way (indoors at JGMS if rainy day).  3:00 – 6:00
Fee:  $190/session ($170 Session 1) 




 

 


JUNIOR SUMMER STOCK: Director: Amy Budka

This is a 4 week musical theater production experience. Participants will work on all the different aspects of musical theater performance - singing, dancing, character development and stage blocking. Participants also participate in designing and crafting scenery, props and costumes. The play is chosen with the group members in mind, and every cast member has at least a few lines. An audition is held in early June so that casting and production can begin. Cast members must be at rehearsal every day, so check your family vacation schedule before making a commitment to Summerstock. We work from 10 AM to 1PM, with a mid-morning snack break. Occasionally some members may be asked to stay later than noon. Two performances will be put on during our final week - one in the afternoon for the Summer Adventurers, and one in the evening for family, friends and the community. Mon. - Fri., 10-1 (or a bit later!) @Middle School. Grades: entering 4-9 Fee:$415

SENIOR SUMMERSTOCK: This program will be offered for HS students this summer. More information will be available on line in February.

PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS

Performing Arts Programs, Inc. is one of New England's proven and premiere talent development program. They offer a professional, progressive program designed for participants of all skill levels. PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER VACATION PROGRAM: This exciting, fun and highly charged summer program is being offered for children ages 6-12yrs old. Mornings will consist of exciting Acting classes and Dance Classes. The acting classes consist of creative theater games, concentration exercises, voice and speech work and structured improvisation to improve performance. Other topics include: monologue work, acting terminology, sense memory, sub-text, stage skills, script work and more!. These classes help students build confidence and inspire their imagination in a fun and supportive environment! The dance classes include high energy jazz dance and movement. The afternoons will consist of rehearsals that will culminate with an end of the week performance for family and friends, Friday at 1:30pm! Program takes place in the Lane School Cafeteria and Multi-Purpose Room, 9:00 AM–

2:30 PM. July 14 - 18. Please pack a lunch and a snack. Fee:$200

BEDFORD GETAWAY WET

This two-week adventure will involve canoeing, kayaking, rafting, beach trips and other water activities. The second week will include a 3 day/2 night trip to Zoar Outdoor in Charlemont, MA where participants will participate in a guided white water rafting trip through the Zoar Gap. Zoar Gap has both level II & III rapids, which is ideal for the beginner rafter. Participants will camp out in cabin tents. A detailed itinerary will be mailed closer to the start of the session. July 14 - 25.

BEDFORD GETAWAY BIKE

This two-week adventure will focus on biking. Participants will spend the first week biking on various local trails & roads. They also swim and participate in other activities. The second week will include a 3 day/2 night trip biking and camping on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. The final two days will be spent at Canobie Lake Park and Water Country. A 5 speed bike is recommended. Helmet required! A detailed itinerary will be mailed closer to the start of the session. July 28- August 8. Fee: $585 Grades: entering 7-9 Max. 26

LOCAL GETAWAY

For children already in Middle School, this is a daily (9:15-3:15, no overnights) series of activities. Days will include trips to Boston events, area beaches, amusement parks such as Canobie Lake Park, Coco Key, and Water Country, mini-golf, bowling, and other fun local activities. (a detailed list will be available prior to the start of each week). This is a one week program. Mon.-Fri., 9:15 - 3:15, meet in Union Room @ Town Center. Grades: entering 7-9th Fee:$225 Local Week 1: July 7 - 11 Local Week 4: July 28 - August 1 Local Week 2: July 14 - 18 Local Week 5: August 4 -8 Local Week 3: July 21 - 25



                                           
PROJECT ADVENTURE

This adventure program provides physical and intellectual challenges with problems or projects to be solved in a group setting. Ropes course adventures included, along with two day trips to a site developed extensively for Project Adventure activities, with the return time being 4:00 pm on these days. Space is very limited. Fee:$435 Mon. - Fri.: 8:45 – 2:45 at Lane School Max. 24. Grades: entering 6 - 9 Session 2: July 14 - 25 Session 3: July 28 - Aug 8

 

PROJECT ADVENTURE – ADVANCED

This adventure program is designed for children who have at least two years experience with the Project Adventure course. The program will include more advanced climbs and will progress at a faster pace than PA. The program takes two day trips to a site developed extensively for Project Adventure activities. On trip days the program will be run until 4:00 PM. Mon. – Fri., 8:45 – 2:45 at Lane School. Grades: entering 7-9. Max. 24 Session 1 only: June 30 – July 11 (no PA on July 4) Fee:$395

COMMUNITY BOATING (Ages 10 & up)

Participants will learn the basics on the Cape Cod Mercury, a 15 foot sloop. The class covers all the bases from rigging and safety rules to sailing your own boat. Participants will also learn the basics of kayaking during the Solo-Kayak class. At the end of the Solo-Kayak class participants will be able to sail on their own or paddle around the river in a Kayak on a Green Flag (light wind) day. Class size is limited to 24 students. This program takes place at the Community Boating Center on the Charles River in Boston. Participants will meet Bedford Recreation Staff at the Lane School, and will transported via bus to Boston for a one week beginner Sailing adventure with the staff from CBI. 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM Ages: 10+ (Min. 15, Max. 30) Fee:$185



 


USSI SPORTS PROGRAMS

US Sports Institute is at the forefront of providing quality sports camps and programs, working with community based organizations across America. USSI encourages each camper to grow in an atmosphere that promotes integrity, self-esteem, positive values and good sportsmanship. All activities take place in a positive, low pressure, educational environment to maximize learning, and also to ensure enjoyment for all participants. MULTISPORTS PROGRAM (ages 7 - 14 years) August 11 - 15

Experience more than 15 different sports from around the world with the US Sports Institute. All activities will take place in an atmosphere that promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all fun. Campers will receive technical instruction in each sport then experience the sport in a realistic game situation. Campers will receive a t-shirt and certificate. Program takes place at the Davis School fields and Gymnasium. Please pack a lunch, snack and plenty of water. 9AM - 3 PM Fee: $160

SPORTS SQUIRTS PROGAM (ages 3 - 5 years) August 11 - 15

The Sport Squirts program is a great way to introduce children aged 3 to 5 to a variety of sports such as Soccer, T-ball, Basketball and Hockey all taking place in a safe structured environment to ensure learning. Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination in which they can Find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin or capture Jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square Pants. Program takes place at the HS B field (behind tennis courts)

BEGINNERS LACROSSE PROGRAM (ages 7 - 12) August 4 - 8

Come and give Lacrosse a try. This program is designed for beginners of all ability and no lacrosse experience is necessary. Learn stick handling, passing, scooping, dodging, shooting and many more fundamental techniques and skills. All equipment is provided. Program takes place at the HS B Field (behind tennis courts) 5:00PM -7:00 PM. Fee: $95


ALL STAR BASKETBALL

Join Coach John Carroll, NBA and award-winning college coach, and the All-Star Basketball Staff for a week of basketball games and fun. Camp includes personal attention aimed at improving skills such as dribbling, ball handling, shooting, and passing. Former camp speakers have included NBA and WNBA coaches and players. Program staff stress the importance of commitment, discipline and dedication to reach a goal, and the importance of teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship in any endeavor. (min.15, max. 80) Session I: June 23 - 27, Monday –Friday, 9-3. Fee:$210 Session II: June 30 - July 2, Monday-Wed. mini-camp, 9-3. Fee:$130  

MASS PREMIER SOCCER CLINIC (Ages 4-10)
 Players will be split by age and ability. Younger players will be introduced to the basic techniques of soccer through fun games and small-sided play. More experienced players will hone their technical skills and learn to improve their tactical awareness in small-sided game situations. Ages 7 and up have an option to stay for a full day (please pack a lunch). All participants should wear shin guards; bring lots of water, and a snack. The clinic will run from 9-12PM, with an option for 7-10 year olds to stay until 3PM. August 11 – 15. Ages 4-10, 9AM-12PM @ Lane School. Fee:$120 Ages 7-10, 9AM-3PM @ Lane School. Fee:$205

BARRIE BRUCE GOLF SCHOOL

JUNIOR GOLF CLINICS, (ages 7 - 14)
Come and learn the lifetime game of golf with Barrie Bruce. These clinics run for an hour and a half Monday through Friday and take place at the Billerica Country Club. Each session will provide instruction on address position, swing with both irons and woods, short game, practice techniques and drills. All equipment and practice balls are provided.

GIRLS ONLY GOLF, (ages 7 - 14)
This program is specifically designed for girls. Girls will receive 4 one and a half hour lessons on the skills and techniques of golf and also receive 1 lesson playing on the course which covers course safety and playing procedures, rules and etiquette, and club selection. Program takes place at the Billerica Country Club. June 23 - July 27, 10:00 - 11:30 AM

THUNDERCAT KIDDIE CAT JAM, (Ages 4 - 6) Soccer will played everyday. Sports include t-ball, basketball, softee hockey, balloon ball, and kick ball. Other activities include – finding the Nemo, Sponge Bob tag, shark attack, thunder relays, Kiddie Cat Olympics, and more. Theme days, including Red Sox Day and Friday Fun Day, add to the excitement creating a non-competitive positive sports experience. Emphasis will be on basic skills, developing hand eye coordination, teamwork, and FUN! Program is coed, and every participant receives a Thundercat ball and t-shirt. Fee:$120

THUNDERCAT SPORTS JAM, (Ages 7 - 12) Baseball, basketball, and soccer will be core sports, but that's not all! Other sports include - flag football, floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, dodge ball, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, wiffle ball, and kick ball. Unique games such as shark attack and safari will also be played. Program is coed, and every participant receives a Thundercat ball and t-shirt. Fee:$150

THUNDERCAT BASEBALL, (Ages 7 - 12) America's past time the Thundercat way! From running the bases, to developing a sweet swing, kids will learn and improve skills through active baseball drills and games. Kids often will be broken down into smaller groups (rather than traditional 9 v 9) to offer more touches, experience, and FUN. Theme days, trivia, and a World Series tournament at the end of the program add to the excitement! Program is coed, and every participant receives a Thundercat baseball, t-shirt, and certificate of achievement. Fee:$150

 

VOLLEYBALL EXTREME w/ The Gators Volleyball Club

If you’re a girl aged 12-16, and you love to play volleyball, this is the week for you. Each day will be filled with game-like drills, scrimmages, and mini-tournaments. Each participant will work with the coaches to develop a written individual development plan to set personal goals and track their improvement throughout the week. Gators coaches adhere to a positive coaching philosophy and use state-of-the-art teaching methods, focusing on individual improvement, mastery of volleyball skills, and having fun. Training will be complemented with workshops and group discussions about mental focus, leadership, and team-building. Previous experience, such as Bedford Recreation clinics, required. Bring lunch, water bottle, gym clothes, knee pads, and sneakers. All participants will receive a T-shirt. July 28 - July 31, 9:00 - 3:00 at the Davis School gymnasium (Mon –Thurs.). WICKED COOL FOR KIDS!

Wicked Cool for Kids is a locally-owned education company that promotes learning by engaging a child’s sense of excitement, wonder and fun. Their programs encourage activity-based learning but they also schedule time for play that supports their learning activities. For more info go to www.wickedcoolforkids.com

UP, UP & AWAY (AGES 7 - 12) Up, Up & Away takes you on an investigation of all kinds of things that move through the air - from carnivores to contraptions! Take a look at birds of prey and find out what these modern day raptors like to eat. Build and launch your own rockets, copters and planes galore! Construct and fly a giant hot air balloon. Get to know bats - the only true flying mammal—and learn how they live and communicate. Finally, focus on the force that everything has to overcome to get Up, Up, and Away! August 4 - August 8, at the Lane School Library. Min: 10, Max: 20 Half Day: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Fee: $165 Full Day: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Fee:$ 250

IN THE DIRT (AGES 7 - 12) In the Dirt gets down and dirty with dirt dissections and worm tunnels. Learn about burrowing animals, and then imagine life from their perspective in your own painting. Dig deep to unearth rocks and minerals and find out how they become beautiful things like paint and jewels. Discover how the earth has changed over millions of years - experiment by erupting model volcanoes, creating sand art sculptures and rocking with the rock cycle! Finally, go fossil hunting to find clues under the ground. Will the bones of a dinosaur turn up? In the Dirt is so much fun it will get under your skin! CHILDRENS TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

ROBOTICS (AGES 9 - 13) Working in pairs and small groups, participants will learn about simple machines such as levers, pulleys and gears, as well as more complex mechanisms such as gear and drive trains, sensors, and pneumatic systems using LEGO Mind-storm components. Projects will be motorized and programmed on a computer using several LEGO programming languages. Instructors will introduce design challenges, discuss real-life robots, and teach participants about proper design and application of structural elements. The class will conclude with a group showcase of project photos. Note: LEGO models will not be taken home. Program takes place at the Lane School Multi Purpose Room. 7/21 - 7/25, 12:30 - 3:00 PM. ANIMATION (AGES 9 - 13)
Get ready for the big screen! In this program kids will learn the fundamentals of digital and stop-motion animation. Working with increasingly challenging projects, students learn about production roles, scripting, storyboarding, camera work, set and character creation, recording, and post-production process such as titles, transitions, and sounds. Students work in pairs to script, film and produce their own stories. Laptops and cameras are provided, as is a variety of building materials. Movies are available to take home. A strict non-violence policy is enforced. Program takes place at the Lane School Multi Purpose Room. 7/21 - 7/25, 12:30 - 3:00 PM. Min:8/Max 20 Fee: $185
